#25 Simple Way

We are going to celebrate the day by having an indoor picnic.  Grab a blanket, prepare an easy lunch (or dinner) and enjoy something different for today.

The picnic pictured above is at my father-in-law’s house.  And I have to tell you that this picnic was bittersweet.  We have been moving my father-in-law out of his house of 44 years.  The praise is that the house sold in under two months.  But this week has been the final moment where it hit me emotionally.  Really, it started when I was explaining to Sweet Boy that we would no longer be coming to this house and that the new people who bought it would be living there instead.  His reply, “It’s not right.”  Well in theory, I couldn’t agree more.

This is the house my husband grew up in.  All the memories I have of his mom are tied to this house.  It’s the house my kids love to visit their Grandpa and get pickles and peanuts.  (Grandpa always keeps them stocked for my kids!)

As we have been cleaning out the house, we have been reminded of so many great memories.  The too-many-to-count family dinners and birthday parties, my mother-in-law’s music boxes, her incredible cooking through a great and well-stocked kitchen and even her recipe boxes.  The memories have been overflowing and quite frankly, so have the tears.

The blessings abound however.  My father-in-law will be moving into a family member’s house and we really have the best of situations.  He is an amazing man with great faith.  (If you haven’t read the “Story of Perspective” of my mother-in-law’s passing, you’ve got to read it!)  Life around us is constantly changing, but isn’t it wonderful that we serve a God who does not.

So grab your family and make great memories . . . memories that last beyond the sale of a house.
